A Night Out in Istanbul
Adhan (Call to Prayer) is traditionally called out from a minaret five times a day, summoning Muslims for mandatory prayers. Most, if not all, of the mosques in Istanbul now have loudspeakers attached to the minarets of the mosques, and each mosque issues the call to prayer five times a day - sunrise, midday, early afternoon, sunset, and evening. There are a lot of mosques, and these calls to prayer are a frequent reminder that you're in a faraway land, both geographically and culturally.
This video begins looking at the Blue Mosque during its call to prayer, and ends with a 180 degree pan back to the Hagia Sophia as its call to prayer begins.
This video begins as we walk down Istiklal Cd. (Istanbul’s Main Street) as the Polis roll down the street. Next, you’re taken through an “indoor outdoor” avenue of restaurants as a table-side band plays and hosts try to lure you to eat at their restaurants.
